Elizabeth & Greg in Charleston, SC

Elizabeth & Greg in Charleston, SC
Elizabeth and Greg hosted a hometown wedding in Charleston, South Carolina.
Photos By: Celeste Joye, Charleston
Event Planning: Soiree Inc
Location: The Carolina Yacht Club, Charleston
Elizabeth‘s Judd Waddell A-line silk gown featured a lace and beaded bodice and a silk bow that was fixed to the waist. Her finger tip-length veil had a crystal beaded trim by Judd Waddell.
The bridesmaids wore A-line Jim Hjelm dresses in raspberry with a silver bow at the waist. They carried bouquets of peonies, sweet peas, and tulips in raspberry and pink.
"The ceremony took place at the church I grew up in -- a beautifully simple all white wooden church with white columns in the historical part of Mt. Pleasant," says Elizabeth. She prepped pre-wedding in her childhood home -- right down the street -- then she and her maids hopped on a trolley to head down to the church. Elizabeth and Greg met up before the ceremony so their photographer could capture their reactions upon first seeing each other. "It was very special and we would not have done it any other way," the bride says. The couple married in a ceremony performed by Greg’s brother, who is a minister, making it an especially personal and poignant affair.
Elizabeth‘s raspberry and silver hues were reflected in her bouquet of raspberry peonies tied with silver satin ribbon.
Following the ceremony, it was on to Charleston for the reception which unfolded in the ballroom of the Carolina Yacht Club overlooking the Charleston Harbor. The 375 guests walked up a spiral staircase decorated with raspberry ribbon to reach the ballroom. As they entered, each guest was handed a pink cocktail with an orchid on top. The ceiling was covered in 200 round white paper lanterns, and banquets set up on the porch boasted raspberry and lime green pillows, creating the perfect party atmosphere.
Esthi Stefenelli of the Peninsula Grill created a six-tier white cake with silver swirls.
Elizabeth and Greg were visiting the famous Outer Banks in North Carolina when he popped the question on the beach. "I always thought this trip would be a great time to get engaged, but Greg had thrown me off and I thought I would be waiting a few more months," says Elizabeth.

Charleston may be a big city, but Elizabeth and Greg kept things close to home with her childhood church, his brother as the officiant, and her mom's former teacher as the photographer.
